Les Miserables the Movie

Can I tell you how excited I am for this movie?!  SO EXCITED!!!  I absolutely loved the original Broadway play.  I know I will love this movie version as well.  It has the storyline, the beautiful music and an amazingly talented cast.

Here's the official movie trailer just in case you haven't seen it already.

If you follow me on Facebook then you already know that I picked up my free movie vouchers earlier today.  It was part of Banana Republic's 12 Days of Joy.  I'm all set and planning on taking the hubby along with me to watch.  So, thank you Banana Republic for providing us with a date night!  Now just have to patiently wait until the movie opens Christmas Day.

Will you be seeing Les Miserables too?  How excited are you about the movie version?  Did you see the original Broadway play?

A Day to Be Thankful

I am thankful for all I have, but most importantly for the people in my life who I share it with every single day.  I feel very blessed to have a home, a husband who loves me unconditionally, five great kids and to be doing what I love to do.  I am thankful for my family and friends both near and far.  Know that I think of you often.

May you enjoy this day surrounded by family and friends and know that your are loved.  Today is a great day to be thankful.  Happy Thanksgiving!!!  Oh, and can't forget about the yummy food too.  Enjoy!

I blame it on Pinterest

Okay, so that is entirely not true.  I have no one but myself to blame.  A few weeks ago {six to be exact} I saw this necklace on Pinterest.  I automatically pinned it as I did with everything else I liked.  It's the lily mineral necklace from anthropologie.  Isn't it pretty?  After pinning it I couldn't get it out of my mind.  Don't you hate when that happens?!

Well, this past weekend I totally caved and bought the necklace and all its' ombre loveliness.  Three simple reasons- I LOVED it, I had a GIFT CARD and it was the LAST one.  Did you ever have one of those moments in a store {like HomeGoods for example} where you have to remember to shop knowing that if you see something you like you better buy it because it might not be there the next time you come back?  Well, that was one of those moments.

As I was being rung up the sales associate told me how lucky I was because the necklace was just returned 10 minutes earlier.  She said the woman returning it had a hard time letting it go.  Her husband was making her return it because according to him she had already spent way more than she should have.  Lucky me, it was meant to be :)

Have you ever pinned something on Pinterest and said to yourself that you really need to have this?  Have you ever liked something so much that you couldn't stop thinking about it?  What did you end up doing, forgetting it or buying it?

Target and Neiman Marcus Holiday Collaboration

Do you watch ABC's "Revenge"?  If you do, did you catch last night's episode and the ads that played during the break?  You know.  The video ads for Target and Neiman Marcus featuring the cast of Revenge as if the commercials were actually part of the show.  If you missed it, click here to see a preview clip of what I'm talking about.  There were five short video spots in total.  At the end of each spot they called it The Gift of Revenge. If you click on the link for last night's episode above you can watch all five commercial video spots as well.  If you want to see the commercial spots just rewind and forward through the episode at your leisure.

I was intrigued by each one.  It was like a story within a story.  I don't know.  I kind of liked it.  I even spotted designer Robert Rodriguez in one of them as he commented on Amanda's dress.  It was his creation of course for the Target and Neiman Marcus holiday line.  Target and Neiman Marcus were the sole sponsors for last night's episode and were the only ads that ran.

So, what's the big deal about these commercial spots?  If you haven't heard yet Target and Neiman Marcus teamed up and will release 50+ gorgeous gifts from designers like Tory Burch, Alice + Olivia, Brian Atwood, Oscar de la Renta and many more on December 1st, 2012.  Right in time for the holidays!  You can read more about the Target and Neiman Marcus holiday collaboration here and here.  And to check out which designers to expect and the gifts/items that each designer specifically created for this holiday collection go here.

I'm excited and can't wait!  I have a few favorite items I already have my eye on.  This is definitely a legendary partnership.  Make sure to look out for this collection December 1st at a Target near you.  You don't want to miss out on what looks to be a great collection. Designer pieces at great prices!

How about you?  Are you excited too?  What do you have your eye on?  Oh, and the real question is, are you a "Revenge" fan?  I'm kinda hooked right now.

what happened to september?!

I can't believe September has already come and gone!  It was definitely a busy month with the start of a new school year, attending back to school nights, and throw in all the kids after school activities that started up again.  It took a bit of getting used to but I'm happy to report that we are now back to our regularly hectic scheduled life.  Sorry for being such a bad blogger these past few weeks :(  But seriously!  I think September has to be one of the CRAZIEST months especially for anyone with school aged kids.  I think it ranks pretty high up there with the holiday season.  Am I right, or am I totally wrong on this one?!  Maybe it's just me.

HELLO?!  Anyone out there?  Hello...hello...hello...

A few more things did happen for us last month to add to the craziness of our September.  Our family celebrated with some birthdays.  First, I celebrated the big 4-0 on 9/9 and then my eldest son celebrated his sixteenth on 9/13. I honestly thought after my actual birthday passed, that I was "in the clear" and would be celebrating this milestone birthday quietly.  But that was not the case.  With a little sneakiness and event planning {behind my back} my family and friends totally caught me off guard and threw me a Surprise 40th the following Friday.  It truly was a nice surprise seeing everyone.  But since I had absolutely no clue about the whole thing I was not prepared and did not have my camera or my phone charged.  Of course not!  The photo below of the gorgeous cake was one of the only photos I was able to take before my phone died.  So, now I'm just waiting to see some of the photos taken by the designated photographers for that night {aka my sister and brother-in-law}. hint hint.

Now thinking about it, my family must have gone berserk when I started taking down all the curtain panels throughout the house and talking about repainting some rooms just two hours before the party.  I really made a mess before they kicked me out of the house.   Ha!  I still had no clue.  How was I supposed to know we were having a party?  See what happens when you keep secrets from momma?  Even my little one didn't say a word.  And the mastermind behind all the party planning...my eldest daughter Emily.  I was very impressed.  She did a great job!  I taught that girl well :)  They all did a great job!

So, in spite of the craziness in the month of September and it just flying by we were able to  make a few minor updates to the house.  Also, found some really fab finds on my shopping excursions.  Can't wait to share them with you. Make sure to check back.  Basically, this is my way of saying I AM STILL HERE.

How was your September?  Was it calm or full of craziness like mine?  Did it go by quickly for you too?

Domino Magazine Special Edition

Were you ever a fan of Domino {magazine}?  I was a huge fan of the magazine and was so upset when they stopped publication back in early 2009.  Darn economy!  But in April 2012 after a three year hiatus, Domino came out with a special edition called Quick Fixes.  I was a fan again!  Did you miss it?  You can still get the digital edition.  To download it onto your iPAD, Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet go here and click on the appropriate link.

Do you follow Domino Magazine on Facebook?  I do.  If you don't go here and LIKE them.  That's how I found out that they were releasing yet another special edition issue.  Woohoo!  The Domino Best Rooms special edition is NOW available in newsstands nationwide.  Make sure to pick up your copy!

Putting this on my to-do list.  Hope you all had a great Labor Day Weekend!

A {Home Office} Design Board

Hi!  I'm back!!!  Sorry for the lack of posts on the blog and status updates on Facebook.  I took an unexpected {but much needed} time off.  Summer is quickly coming to an end and the beginning of a new school year is just around the corner.  I ended up taking the last couple of weeks off to relax and spend with the family before the kids head back to school and life became hectic routine again.  I'm sure many of you can understand and totally relate.  Well it's now two weeks later, I'm rejuvenated and ready to get back to business.  So, if you are reading this... thanks so much for checking in!!!

Here is a design board  I put together for a home office.  I went with a neutral color palette with lots of cream, white and gray plus just a hint of yellow.  This is still one of my favorite color combinations.  Not sure if I will ever get tired of it.

I realized as I was putting this design board together that I must have had geometric shapes on my brain.  This is totally evident in the pillows, curtain panels and artwork.  Even the rug had an abstract sort of geometric spiral thingy going on.

Of course I included the obvious desk, chair and storage|shelving unit but I also wanted to add a little sitting area to this home office.  If you have the space it is always nice to add an area where you can sit, relax and unwind at the end of the day with a good book, or in my case magazine and a nice glass of wine.

So, what do you think?  Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts.  I would love to hear from you.

A Design Board {aka mood board} is the perfect inspiration plan for any design.  I hope you find my design boards inspirational.  Design Boards can help in envisioning what a space can potentially look like.  Design Boards are just one of the design services I offer.  If you're interested in your own personalized design board or just want more information about my design services, please contact me at jenfernandezdesign@gmail.com for more details & rates.
