Let the Games Begin...and the weekend!

We're kicking off the weekend watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony {on the telly} of course.  Are you as excited for the Olympics as we are?  Which events are you looking forward to watching? For us, it's pretty much everything.  Just wish we were in London...

happy weekend

Have an enjoyable & relaxing weekend!

fab find

Look what we recently found at our local Crate & Barrel Outlet.  It's the Scholar Twin Bed from Crate & Barrel.  This bed is still currently being sold in stores and on-line.  It retails for $699.  Now get this...the price on the tag was {drum roll please} $49.  Yup, you read that right- FORTY-NINE DOLLARS!!!  Woo-hoo!  And it was brand new!  This of course came home with us.

But here's the deal.  It was missing a few screws and bolts.  No biggie!  The hubby and I found screws and bolts that will work just fine at Home Depot for $3.12 + tax.  All good!  Can't wait to see this bed set up in my littlest ones room.  Look how cute it could look all dressed up with just the right bedding.

What a great deal this was!  This has to be one of the best deals we have gotten {to date} on a piece of furniture.  Now this to me is a fab find!  How about you?  What was your most recent fab find?

another room reveal

A few months back I had finished up a room design for a client's family room.  It was soon after I completed the room that I posted the design board for my Design Board Monday series.  If you missed it you can read about it here.  But just to refresh your memory this was the original design board I came up with.  This jump started the entire design of a casual modern rustic family room.

I had taken photos of the room months ago, but it's only now that I'm finally getting around to posting them.  I apologize for the photo overload.  I had a hard time picking out the photos.  I took a lot of pictures that day.  There was just way too many to pick from.  And it took me a little bit to dig up some BEFORE photos since we started this room from scratch.

BEFORE

AFTER

Part of the design for window treatments called for natural woven shades like bamboo, but it didn't quite fit in the budget at the time.  The client will eventually replace the blinds when she is ready to make the purchase.  The current white blinds still work but I know for a fact that as soon as she can she will replace them because they are the inexpensive vinyl blinds that you sometimes find in apartment rentals.  And the other side currently has no blinds.  So for privacy purposes that is a priority.  For now she pulls the drapes.

With this room design we added crown molding and painted the entire room a lovely shade of gray.

The client also loved the color orange.  She wanted to somehow incorporate the color into the design of the room.  We did just that with the trio of artwork we found at a local home store and also with throw pillows.  Also, we created a feature wall here by having this wall painted a slightly darker gray than the rest of the room.  You can see the difference slightly in this photo.

Sorry for the dark photos.  It was really hard to get a good shot of the entire room.  Lighting was impossible.  And of course the sun was not cooperating with me that day.  I hate when that happens!

The client has two young children and we were thinking of adding a small parsons desk in the corner for them to use.  It needed to be a specific size because of the wall space and also so that the corner didn't look cramped.  At the time the ones we liked that were the right price and size were out of stock.  So, for now the desk idea is on hold.

This room was also in need of storage.  So in order to fulfill that need I chose to add a small 3-drawer dresser meant for a bedroom.  I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with using furniture meant for one room and using it in another.  Always think outside of the box.

Well, there you have it another room reveal.  What do you think?  Many of the major pieces were purchased from West Elm with some pieces and accessories purchased in a number of local home stores like Marshalls, HomeGoods as well as Target.  Even though items were purchased at multiple stores I love how everything came together.

mood board monday

Welcome back to another edition of Design Board Monday!  A Design Board {aka mood board} is the perfect inspiration plan for any design.  I hope you find my design boards inspirational.  Design Boards can help in envisioning what a space can potentially look like.

Today I have for you my take on a modern dining room.  I was going for a sleek and elegant modern style.  It is a neutral palette with mostly black & white with a punch of yellow.

I love this look.  It's simple in design and still makes a statement.  It is a classic style, but modern at the same time.  I did add the citrine {yellow} color through the fabric but you can easily add more color to this room with accessories.  Things like that can easily be changed out depending on the seasons, the different holidays, or even if you're just looking for a change.

So, what do you think?  Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts.  I would love to hear from you.

If you want to check out some of the other design boards I've posted, you can do that here, here, here, here and here.   Design Boards are just one of the design services I offer.  If you're interested in your own personalized design board or just want more information about my design services, please contact me at jenfernandezdesign@gmail.com for more details & rates.

room crush

This little girl's room by Houston designer Sally Wheat is so sweet.  The room has an eclectic mix of modern & vintage.  It has a neutral palette that is very calming.  I love the little settee and the tufted upholstered headboard as well as the round shag rug and gray dot fabric on the french chair.  Oh, and I can't forget about that light fixture.

What little girl wouldn't love to sleep in a room like this?  It is definitely a room fit for a princess.
